The Alfa Romeo badge is a combination of the two symbols of the city of Milan, the marque’s birthplace. In the left half there’s a red cross on a white background, commemorating the heroic deeds of Giovanni da Rho.
On the right, there’s a green serpent, the symbol of the Visconti family who ruled over Milan for many years.
Alfa itself stands for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili: after Nicola Romeo bought the Alfa factory in 1915, the inscription on the metallic rim of the badge became “ALFA-ROMEO MILANO”.
